Writing these entries is not always an easy task, especially for this one. I’m looking at these photos and I’m wondering how to best give you a short background into who these people are. Are they in love? Are they married? Are they getting married?????? I’m struggling here because I can’t find the words to describe how amazing the situation is. I first photographed Kim and James two years ago, as shown here, while they were in the midst of their story. The story, I will not even attempt to tell in full here, but I will say that they adopted four beautiful children, all siblings, from Brazil. The process was long and arduous, but God prevailed. This is them, a year later.

And of course, the parents.

And the kids, one last time.

love :: rob and myun-hwa

I got a call this afternoon from Rob asking me what I was doing.  In all honesty, I was getting ready to play some XBOX 360 with my friend Jim, but curiousity got the best of me and I asked him what he had in mind.  Well, he called because he and Myun-Hwa were hoping that I could take some photos of them for their Save the Date card.  That’s right, they’re getting married.  Woo Hoo!!! They’re both simply awesome.  I’ve known the two of them for several years now and they’re each wonderful in their own regard.  I am absolutely excited that they’re getting married.

Anyways, I managed to squeeze in some XBOX time with Jim and time to photograph what was needed for Rob and Myun-Hwa’s Save the Date card (which is not shown). Rob and Myun-Hwa spent their first date flying a kite, hence the content of the pictures. It was cold. It was windy. The kite also took a while to set up; it was a tangled mess but Rob saved the day!  We ended up with 20 minutes of light. Here are just a few from this afternoon.  The processing is a bit different – going for the nostalgic feel, I suppose.  Let me know if it’s working.  :-p

love :: james and mina

I had a blast today with James and Mina around the Yale campus.  They saw my work and wanted photos for themselves and for their parents.  They felt that Yale really helps define them as a couple, so off to Yale we went.  I don’t think I did Yale any justice in these pictures…sigh, but I hope they were at least good pictures of the two of them.  During our shoot, I mentioned that it’d be great if I coud get them onto the roof of a building.  As it turns out, they have access where they live. You’ll see those towards the end. Here are some of the pictures from the preliminary edit. Let me know what you think!

in love :: james and kim

I asked James and Kim a few weeks ago if they would allow me to photograph them. They’ve always displayed such genuine joy and love with each other and I thought it’d be great if I could capture it. Kind as they were, they said yes. Since we hadn’t hung out in a while either, we decided to meet up for dinner last night at Kari Restaurant in New Haven, which serves up regional cuisine in New Haven. (If you haven’t gone, I recommend it.) James suggested that we go to the Storm King Art Center both because it was would be a beautiful autumn day and it is a place that fits well with who they are. The place is full of outdoor sculptures, and since I hadn’t been there before, I really didn’t know what to expect; nor did I know how to really incorporate the many pieces of art. The only piece of art that James and Kim mentioned ahead of time was a piece that allowed me to do this.

Alas, when we finally arrived, it was a brisk autumn day and the Fulltons were in constant show of their love and abundant joy. They really were fun to capture; Sara and I were very glad that we were able to spend the day with them. Best part was, we capped the day with some Popeye’s fried chicken…mmmh…Popeyes. Anyways, here are some snapshots from the day.

Apple Picking with the Hixsons

I’ve always heard that the best way to get better at something is to practice it. The same holds true for photography. I really needed to get more experience at photographing couples so I asked around to see if anyone would like to be my test subjects. To my amazement, two couples responded right away. I knew both couples through my church and this would’ve been a great opportunity to spend some time with them, aside from the opportunity to photograph them. The first couple I spent the day with was Brent and Michelle, and we decided to go apple picking.

The first location was Lyman Orchards, but it was very, very crowded. We decided to drive across a couple towns to go to a much smaller orchard in Cheshire. I’ve never been there before and nor do I remember the name of the place, but Brent has, so he was our fearless leader and navigator.

We arrived and picked our apples. The light was harsh and the trees were tiny, but the crowds were much less of an issue. Unsatisfied with the photos I got, we drove back to Lyman Orchards right as the sun was heading below the horizon, and got a few keepers. Of course, this is all useless unless you see pictures, so here they are. Enjoy!
